RuPaul’s Drag Race renewed for season 11 at VH1
In terms of commercial success, there was no question that this series would be back. Season 10 was one of the most-watched series on record for the show, which recently moved to VH1 after spending its first handful of seasons over on Logo. Beyond just the ratings on television, the show is a tremendous hit over on social media where it continues to draw countless impressions as well as trending topics.
In a statement confirming the news, RuPaul Charles had the following to say:
“After 10 sickening seasons, the Drag Race phenomenon is just getting started … I want to thank VH1 for providing this amazing platform for a whole new generation of super talented drag queens.”
Only RuPaul can come up with an effective re-branding of a word like sickening, right?
Meanwhile, to go along with this statement, VH1’s senior vice president of original programming and development Pamela Post added the following:
“We are thrilled that ‘Drag Race’ will continue to lead the conversation of inclusion and diversity as the show embarks on its eleventh season … It’s unprecedented for a show to continue to grow on the scale that ‘Drag Race’ has, and it’s just the beginning.”
While with some shows it’s a little bit easy to think that an eventual end is in site, we definitely don’t think that is the case here when it comes to RuPaul’s Drag Race. Every year it can reinvent itself with new contestants, and with the show continuing to get big-name judges, it has that potential to continually bring in new viewers. One of the things that we appreciate about it the most is that it can offer some perspective for people who may have been rather close-minded previously about the world of drag.
