Quick Hits: Vida season 2 renewal; Cloak & Dagger success; Netflix extends Parts Unknown
In a press release on Tuesday, the network confirmed the news while also touting Vida for its strong performance among Latinx viewers to date. It also posts strong delayed-viewing numbers, especially among a Hispanic audience the network was not reaching as much previously. Its live viewership was low, but as more viewers discover the show over time things could change.
In a statement, Starz head Chris Albrecht had the following to say:
“’Vida’ has delivered on its promise of attracting a young, new Latinx audience to the STARZ platform, as we had hoped it would, and we are pleased to be able to announce a second season of the series … With these new episodes, [creator Tanya Saracho] and her team now have the opportunity to take audiences even deeper into the lives and community of the Hernandez sisters, and we look forward to bringing the next chapter of their story to life.”
Hopefully, new Vida episodes will launch in 2019. As for some other news…
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger success
We’ll keep this pretty short and sweet: Freeform has to be thrilled with the start of its excellent new comic-book adaptation, which has generated over 7 million views across linear and digital platforms in live+3 numbers. That’s an incredible start that all but guarantees that a season 2 renewal is coming, though it isn’t actually official just yet.
More of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown on Netflix
In the days that followed the terrible passing of the great chef / traveler, fans started to notice that it was set to leave the service later this month. Luckily, Netflix confirmed in a post on Twitter today that they have extended an agreement to carry the show for “months to come.” Given how many people are now eager to dive further into Bourdain’s world, that feels as though it is a very wise decision.
