The Americans spin-off: Don’t expect it anytime soon

While there may be some proclamations out there for there to be an spin-off of The Americans all about the character of Paige, that doesn’t seem to be something that the show’s producers are focusing on at all.

Despite there being definitely some room open at the end of the series finale for more stories to be told, show executive producer Joel Fields had the following to say on the subject (per Variety) at an event honoring the show last night:

“I think the story’s told — I think we finished it … We’ll let tonight bring the curtain down.”

There is absolutely still potential for The Americans to do more with the Paige character in the event that they want to, but we absolutely do understand the value in moving on to do other things. Often with spin-offs there is this sort of pressure to either build on or match everything that came beforehand, and with a show like The Americans it is not altogether hard to see why that would be difficult. This is a show that has already brought so much in terms of drama and intrigue to the screen that trying to establish a future for Paige that is anywhere near as interesting could be tough.

Do we think that this writing staff could do it? Sure, but after spending the past several years being so wrapped up in the Jennings’ world it makes a certain degree of sense that they would want to look ahead and test out some different horizons for a while. If someone ever does change their mind, there is certainly room to come back to this in the future.

Now that we have spelled all of this out, though, the demand for some fans for a Paige spin-off is probably still going to be out there for quite some time.
