How Shadowhunters season 3 will show different side of Magnus Bane
This is something that executive producer Todd Slavkin touches on further within a new interview with TVLine:
“It’s heartbreaking … But it’s also beautiful, because he learns a lot. He learns how to live in the moment, something he never had to do when he had powers. Season 3B is such a rollercoaster ride for Magnus Bane. We loved his arc in 3A, but for Harry Shum, Jr. as an actor, it’s a hell of a journey. It’s beautiful and profound and it’ll break your heart. You’re in for a ride that’s really intense to watch.”
We would imagine that, through this, there are highs and lows when it comes Malec just because any major life change brings that. Our hope is that the two are going to find their way to push through it (they often do), but communication and openness is going to matter perhaps now even more than it ever has before.
On a lighter note, Slavkin does also tease that over the rest of season 3 you will see a number of personal moments for Magnus and Alec that involve the two characters being domestic and somewhat normal — you need these in order to balance out some of the bigger, crazier moments such as a massive battle against Lilith and whatever is going to be coming next on the other side. (After all, Clary’s fate is still not altogether certain.)
