Grey’s Anatomy season 15: Kim Raver officially named series regular

Megan Hunt

This was a move that was easy to call following the end of Grey’s Anatomy season 14 — Kim Raver is officially now a series regular once more!

In a statement, here is what the actress had to say about coming back in a more permanent capacity after making a number of guest appearances over the past year:

“I am thrilled to reprise the role of Dr. Teddy Altman as a regular … Returning to Shondaland with the incredibly talented [showrunner] Krista Vernoff, Ellen Pompeo and the amazing cast is heavenly. I have a special place in my heart for Teddy and feel very lucky to have the opportunity to continue her story.”

Raver’s character Teddy returned in the finale, and in the process of that revealed that she is expecting a baby! What makes that move so dramatic is that the father is likely Owen, and his relationship with Amelia has been improving as of late as the two of them are doing their best to be a makeshift foster family. You have to think that Teddy coming back full-time is going to throw a pretty big wrench into the system. There have long been feelings there between Teddy and Owen, but she made the assessment after the two were last together that Owen was there just because of his fear to be alone more so than any inherent desire to spend the rest of his life with her.

In adding Raver we see that Grey’s Anatomy is dipping into some of its own nostalgia, choosing a character who has been a part of the series for many years. To go along with her hire, we wouldn’t be surprised if there was a new male cast member hired at some point in the coming months. That’s another something to keep in mind before season 15 premieres in the fall.
