Blue Bloods, MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0, NCIS: Los Angeles, more renewed by CBS
Here are the shows that are officially coming back: Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, Blue Bloods, Madam Secretary, NCIS: Los Angeles, Bull, NCIS: New Orleans, Survivor, The Amazing Race, 60 Minutes, and 48 Hours. Most of these renewals were somewhat of a given, though there are a couple of pleasant surprised mixed in here. For example, it’s nice to have official word on MacGyver and Madam Secretary, two shows CarterMatt was cautiously optimistic on but not 100% sure of. There is no jaw-dropping announcement in the mix in terms of a low-rated show getting another chance.
While this renewal does not confirm that any particular actor is coming back, there is reason for optimism like with Hawaii Five-0 and its negotiations with some of its stars. Of course, there are also shows like NCIS: Los Angeles and Blue Bloods that could also face negotiations soon, if not for these upcoming seasons.
It’s fairly common practice for CBS to issue a bulk renewal for most of their lineup, largely because this is something that they like to do in order to inspire confidence and keep people excited leading up to their finales. They’ve done this the past few years and we don’t see that changing at some point in the near future. The official schedule should be announced at the upfronts in May.
These shows all join SWAT, SEAL Team, and NCIS, which had already been renewed. The same goes for The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon.
The biggest thing that everyone should feel right now is a sense of relief, largely because we know that there’s been some anxiety out there about a few different shows — we heard from a lot of people concerned about the future of NCIS: Los Angeles this year, even though it was the #1-rated show on Sunday night for CBS. We were never altogether concerned about that.
