Ratings: Did Good Girls, Scorpion, The Crossing help renewal odds?
How did some of the latest Monday-night scripted series fare in primetime? We’re getting into the home stretch of the season and with that, this is when the rubber meets the road for many of these programs. It’s certainly worth a closer look to see how some of them are faring and CarterMatt is ready to dive in with you.
Good Girls – Let’s begin here with the NBC series, which actually won its timeslot on Monday with a 1.0 rating. If that holds in the final numbers it will mark the series’ best performance in the past few weeks. We’re starting to get the sense that Good Girls does have a shot of returning, even if it will probably end up being moved to somewhere else on the schedule. The natural tendency at the moment seems to be NBC renewing shows that premiere after The Voice and then move them elsewhere. Unfortunately, the track record of doing this is not altogether great given that Blindspot is currently in danger and Timeless is hanging on mostly by the support of its fans. Taken, meanwhile, is more or less done.
Scorpion – We wish it was better news here, but with a 0.7 rating, the CBS procedural show seems to be in severe trouble of being over at the end of the season. For the time being our sentiment here is mostly just that the DVR ratings and other streaming data probably need to be strong in order for Scorpion to get another kick at the can beyond this season.
The Crossing – Finally, ABC’s latest attempt to launch a science fiction series is having some mixed results. The good news is that the series only lost 11% of its premiere audience this week to finish with a 0.8 rating. Unfortunately, the bad news there is that this still isn’t a great performance in general. Maybe it’s faring a little bit better than a Designated Survivor at the moment, but the Kiefer Sutherland show has a lot more marketability and viability all over the world than one featuring a solid cast, but one lacking some of the big names that you’re seeing elsewhere.
