MasterChef Junior interview: Mackenzie Patten on sushi, show experience

Mackenzie Patten

Mackenzie Patten is one of the latest contestants eliminated from MasterChef Junior, but based on what she accomplished, she can certainly have her head held high! For one, she lasted several weeks into the competition; beyond that, she executed sushi during the most-recent episode. Have you ever made sushi? It is not that easy!

In the latest edition of our MasterChef Junior exit interview series Mackenzie opens up about her elimination from the show, what she learned, and what she wants to do within the realm of food next.

CarterMatt – What made you want to be a part of the show this season?

Mackenzie – I love to cook and I love a good challenge so I thought it would be fun to do and of course I love MasterChef Junior.

You chose to make sushi for the judges on this past episode. What’s the hardest thing about making it?

The hardest part of making the sushi was sizing the sushi and getting the perfect amount of seasoning for the sauce.

What challenge this season excited you the most?

The fruit tart challenge excited me the most because I’m not used to baking and it would challenge me to do my best and ultimately it was fun and a great experience.

Did the experience prove to be everything that you thought it would be?

Yes! Except I thought Gordon Ramsay would be mean, but he was really nice. It was really fun and I made lots of new friends.

Was there any food that you were hoping to make this season, but didn’t get a chance to?

I wanted to make the Tilly burger. But I get to cook it at home all the time and it is yummy!

Following the show, what are your food dreams now?

To experience eating and making new and different kinds of foods.
