Arrow season 6: Stephen Amell on Willa Holland’s departure

Arrow season 6 video

This past Thursday marked the final episode of Arrow season 6 for Willa Holland as Thea Queen, and this moment is certainly a big deal. After all, the actress was with the series from the time of the pilot, and to go along with that she is also the only member of Oliver Queen’s immediate family who had been around the entire time. The only blood relative that he has now is William, who only recently entered his life.

As you would imagine, Stephen Amell formed a close relationship with her over the years thanks to her being a key cog on the show; yet, at the same time he was also aware of her desire to move forward and try different things with her career. Leaving the show now allows her to prepare for the 2018-19 season, if there is another job out there that she is excited to take on. Here is what Amell had to say per TVLine on the subject of her exit:

“Quite frankly, the most important thing when you’re doing a show like this and you’re doing 23 episodes [per season] and you’re working long, hard hours, you need to make sure that everyone that’s here wants to be here. … [Over the years] Willa was nothing short of professional and excellent, and always delivered tremendous performances. But I know that she wanted to move on with her career. And I totally respect that. And I’m glad that she’s going to get that opportunity.”

Show boss Marc Guggenheim confirmed in a recent interview that Holland had been planning to exit once her contract was up for some time, and he revisited the subject with her prior to the start of season 6. Both the exit as well as her absence in many episodes as of late are both the end result of her own wishes.
