DuShon Monique Brown, Connie on Chicago Fire, dead at 49

DuShon Monique Brown

There is some extremely sad news to report tonight: DuShon Monique Brown, an actress best known for her time on Chicago Firehas died at the age of 49. The news is sad and sudden, and it certainly is going to set a somber tone on the set of the series and around it for weeks to come.

In a statement per The Hollywood Reporter, Brown’s manager Robert Schroeder had the following to say:

“We are very sad to announce the untimely death of beloved Chicago actress DuShon Monique Brown. DuShon, most affectionately known to many as Connie on NBC’s Chicago Fire, died suddenly Friday morning of natural causes … We are devastated by the loss of a very talented and kindhearted soul. DuShon was a film, television, commercial and voice-over actress who also graced the stages of many Chicago theaters. She brought laughter and joy to many and will be greatly missed. At this difficult time we ask that the privacy of the family and loved ones be respected.”

Meanwhile, Chicago Fire executive producer Dick Wolf also put out a statement of his own:

“The Chicago Fire family is devastated to lose one of its own … Our thoughts and prayers are with DuShon’s family and we will all miss her.”

We met Brown briefly during the 100th episode party for Chicago Fire back in the Windy City in 2016 and she was nothing short of warm, kind, and friendly. She loved playing the character and joked about some ways to get her some more screen time.

Some of Brown’s other notable TV credits included a few episodes of Boss on Starz to go along with Prison Break. She was a veteran performer who was ready to deliver anything that she was asked to do at any given time. She brought a lot to Chicago Fire whenever she was featured and our hope here is that the series does honor her with some sort of title card moving forward. One way or another, we also do hope that there is a way for the series to honor her more on-screen.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Brown and her family during what has to be a really tough time. (Photo: NBC.)
