Hawaii Five-0 season 9: Alex O’Loughlin now hoping to return
In speaking on this subject more in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, O’Loughlin noted that his philosophy is a little bit different now and that he’s hoping to sign a new deal that keeps him on board for another couple of years:
“I’m more open to continuing on than I was when we spoke a couple years ago … It’s a hard question to answer at the end of the season. I’m literally shooting episode 25 right now, and it happens to be episode 193 as well. All I want to do is collapse into my hiatus and go to bed for a couple weeks, but I am open to doing another couple of years. Hopefully we can make a deal.”
Typically actors around this point in a series’ run will sign on for two more seasons and that would put O’Loughlin good on the show until season 10. Hopefully, the parties involved can get a deal done and we don’t have an unfortunate repeat of what happened over the course of this past off-season.
As for why O’Loughlin is more open now, a big part of that seems to have to deal with his recovery from a spinal injury years ago that was making it hard for him to work on this show. It gets sometimes lost amidst the TV magic but this is a very tough, very physically-demanding show for anyone to be a part of. It took a toll on him doing so many stunts but he’s on the other side of that and seems to have a workout regime that is really working for him.
Now, let’s hope that many other members of the Ohana also manage to stick around for many more years of Hawaii Five-0 coming up.
