Ink Master season 10 episode 8 review: Someone’s digging through garbage…
Before getting to some of the tattoos themselves, let’s talk for a minute about the Flash Challenge — some of these designs etched in glass are beautiful! Team Steve Tefft managed to take it home with a garish-but-fantastic design and that was enough in order to get power the rest of the way. This is where things started to become a bit rinse-and-repeat — yet again, Team DJ Tambe was the target and we get it. Frank Ready, Deanna Smith, and Josh Payne all received challenging canvases in theory — Josh claimed that his was easy, but in that moment we weren’t all that sure.
Was this strategy of targeting Team DJ actually successful? Well, not exactly. It all mostly backfired. It almost feels as though Team DJ is taking most of that energy and feeding off of it — Josh has been consistently strong and Deanna’s only gotten better as time has progressed. Frank struggled somewhat, but he wasn’t in the bottom.
This challenge was a weird one overall mostly because of the fact that there wasn’t a tattoo of the day — nobody had a perfect design and that doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence when it comes to a winner. Given that we said Deanna had a winner’s episode in the premiere we’re slightly inclined to stick with that, but we’re also not ruling out Juan or, of course, Josh.
This elimination was a bummer
We really like Mike Diaz a lot and it stunk to see him go home, especially since it was clear that he was missing his family and he knew that he could’ve done better. Also, it really felt like he had a much better chance of actually making it further in the season than Daniel Silva — Daniel may have all of the talent in the world, but he’s shown time and time again at this point that he lacks the ability to really listen to any feedback thrown at him via Anthony Michaels. He narrowly escaped going home here with a tattoo that he struggled with from the jump — really to the point where he didn’t know what he was tattooing when he first heard about the idea.

CarterMatt Verdict
Ink Master season 11 episode 8 proved itself to be pretty entertaining, even though the elimination was somewhat had. By far, the most dramatic moment came when Josh was going at Roli before the critique and Josh, apparently, dug out Roli’s botched stencil from the garbage just to wave it in his face. Guy’s got props! Josh is a ridiculous human but he’s an awfully good tattooer and we don’t see him going home anytime soon.
