Sean Crouch joins Lore season 2; The Exorcist season 3 still in play
There’s a double dose of good news out there today for everyone who loves great horror-related programming.
Let’s start with the news that a Lore season 2 is now official over at Amazon! Per a report from Deadline, the series (based on the popular podcast) is looking to be around six episodes once more and it will come with some behind-the-scenes changes. Recent The Exorcist season 2 showrunner Sean Crouch has been appointed showrunner; given his work on that series, the future of Lore is in good hands.
Lore comes via Valhalla Entertainment and Propagate Content; in a statement today, Ben Silverman and Howard Owens of the latter company had the following to say about the series’ future:
“With Sean Crouch at the helm, Lore is set to be scarier than ever … In Season 2, we will explore global, real-life horror stories that make this series unlike anything else on television. We are thrilled to be back on Prime Video.”
What does this mean for The Exorcist season 3?
This brings us to the other good news — Crouch confirmed on Twitter that, if the show is renewed, he is still attached! Granted, there is no guarantee that another season of The Exorcist will happen. Despite its season 2 reception and a devoted fanbase, the ratings for the season were down versus season 1 and even that was considered a surprise renewal at the time in which it happened. Add to this further questions in the wake of Fox’s sale to Disney and this is a series very much on the bubble. It’s mostly just comforting to hear that if The Exorcist does get another reprieve there won’t be too many changes at the top.
We anticipate getting word one way or another on the future of The Exorcist by the time May sweeps roll around. Stay tuned!
