Superstore season 4 renewal official over at NBC
After posting once more some solid numbers through season 3, the America Ferrera-led comedy series is going to be back during the 2018-19 season for another 22 episodes. This cements the status of Superstore as one of the premier comedies the network has; it also joins The Good Place and Will & Grace as comedies that are confirmed to be coming back for another season.
In general, across the board this year NBC has come in a little bit lighter on comedies, airing only two hours of them a week at one time on Thursdays. For the most part, scaling down has worked well. Three out of the four series that premiered this fall have already been renewed for another season; the one holdout is Great News, which has struggled for whatever reason to really success following Will & Grace on the air.
One of the other great things about the Superstore season 4 renewal for fans of that show is that this news makes it very hard for NBC to stop ordering more episodes anytime soon. Because of a shortened first season it won’t be at the 88 episodes often needed these days to make it into syndication. As a result of that, it almost feels like they’re really going to need a season 5 to get the show closer to that. Syndication, even if it’s not the monster that it used to be, could get Superstore a little more attention — which it certainly does deserve after spending most of its run as one of the most underrated comedies out there and one that, inexplicably, has not gotten the attention that you would think it should.
For the time being, just rejoice in the fact that the show isn’t going anywhere and that NBC is as a network continuing to show faith in great concepts like Superstore that aren’t just carbon copies of some sort of typical sitcom format. Fresh ideas are going to be what ultimately has people watching many familiar networks.
