McMafia season 2 could happen, based on ending alone
Now that we have seen it, though, it does feel very much like we could still have a McMafia season 2 in the future — disregard the source material and focus mostly on the ending. Alex is still alive. That’s really all that matters within this series. Almost all of the show is based entirely on this one man and his journey. He’s gone from being just a banker to being a boss in his own right — he fights to get what he wants and, beyond that, he also makes sure that nobody stands in his way. There are opportunities to see him continuing to climb the food chain, just as there are also opportunities to see new threats enter the picture.
We’ve certainly stated this before, but the BBC has themselves a clear out if they don’t want to make any more McMafia, mostly because of the fact that there were never any designs of doing more in the first place. This was designed from the jump to be a limited series, one that would have a clearly defined beginning, middle, and end. The plan could change down the road depending on what the powers that be over at the BBC want to do.
For now, though, the end is the end — as reported previously, the ratings for this season were decent but based on those alone, we’re not sure that there is justification enough to give the series any more burn. It would probably take some sort of international success or strong after-the-fact numbers for a McMafia season 2 to ultimately come to fruition.
