Grey’s Anatomy season 14 spoilers: Is a big change coming for Owen soon?

Are we going to be getting to see Owen Hunt back in the dating pool soon on Grey’s Anatomy season 14? We would understand the appeal of making his move, but it doesn’t actually seem as though it’s happening right away. The ABC series is looking to exercise a little bit of patience with the character in the midst of the split from Owen — a trend that you’ve probably noticed at this point. After all, Kevin McKidd’s taken a little more of a back seat in the past few episodes. It won’t be that way forever, but the actor had a pretty substantial arc this past fall. One of the things that Grey’s Anatomy does a great job at is spreading the love around; for example, the series is making up right now for having a lot for April to do this past fall.

When it comes to Owen’s dating life in particular, McKidd notes to Entertainment Weekly that there isn’t going to be significant movement right away:

“He’s going to be single for a while … He hasn’t had much luck, as we know. Poor guy. He’s going, ‘I’m going to stop putting all this pressure on myself,’ which is what his sister taught him. Owen will eventually come back to [wanting to have kids], but for now, he’s really taking his sister’s words to heart.”

When could that change? With Kim Raver returning later this season and Owen now available, there’s a reasonably good chance that you circle that as a possibility. Yet, that’s far from a guarantee — not only that, but Raver is still going to be splitting time with this show and Designated Survivor. We’ve seen over the years with this series that it’s rather hard to do a lengthy romantic arc with a character if they are only around the show for a certain percentage of time. Then again, maybe there’s something about a long-distance relationship that could appeal to own right now. We also aren’t ruling out Owen and Amelia giving things another go in the future once they get a chance to actually know each other in a real way. Amelia and Owen both have an understanding of the brain tumor that caused problems for the two the first time around.
