Being Mary Jane season 5: Filming begins on two-hour series finale

Being Mary Jane season 5

The good news is that there is technically a Being Mary Jane season 5 coming in the future. However, the bad news is equally clear: This “season” is really just a two-hour movie designed mostly to wrap up the entire story of the series so far.

Production is officially underway now on the BET project, which is going to feature Michael Ealy, Lisa Vidal, Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery, Richard Brooks, BJ Britt, Raven Goodwin and Nicholas Gonzalez alongside former Rosewood star Morris Chestnut. The movie is going to air later this fall, but the beginning of production on the movie is the first signal for the beginning of the end.

For a little while, it definitely appeared as though Being Mary Jane was going to be one of those rare cable TV hits that could last for a good six or seven seasons. However, that started to fall apart after some of the ratings came out for the fourth season. A really long hiatus seemed to be one of the problems that ultimately doomed the series after getting off to such a great start. In the end, though, we’re nothing but grateful that BET still decided to do another two-hour movie to try to close the door on what’s been a super-great run for the series. This is something that we wish more networks would do, even in the event that it’s not altogether profitable for them. It just shows a level of commitment and understanding to viewers that you don’t get in many other venues. Viewers like to know that they are being cared for — also, getting proper endings to some of their favorite shows raises the odds that they will come back and check out some more programming on your network in the future. We know that there are some networks out there who have scared off viewers by canceling series on a cliffhanger.

Once there is more news on the Being Mary Jane movie, including a premiere date, we’ll be sure to have it for you here.
