True Detective season 3: Mamie Gummer cast as Lucy Purcell
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Purcell character is described as a mother of two children and someone who cares deeply about them — however, she also finds herself in the midst of quite a few struggles after being caught in the middle of a crime. This season is being set in the Ozarks region of Arkansas, and unlike the Jason Bateman Netflix series Ozark this series is actually filming in the area. It will span several years and feels a little bit more similar to the critically-acclaimed first season, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and made Nic Pizzolatto into a rising star.
Gummer is coming on board True Detective with a pretty stacked resume already. She recently had a role on The Good Fight and, before that, The Good Wife proper. She appeared on WGN America’s Manhattan and starred as the title role in The CW’s short-lived Emily Owens MD. She is one of Meryl Streep’s daughters, and one of the main reasons why this is interesting in context at the moment is because Streep recently signed on for a different HBO series in Big Little Lies, playing the mother to Alexander Skarsgard’s late character Perry.

As of right now, be prepared for True Detective season 3 to premiere at some point in 2019. HBO was in no hurry to get this season together, opting to make sure that it was right before committing to anything. Now, it feels like they are confident in the story and also want to do everything within their power to make sure that they are equally confident in the show. There’s a lot riding on True Detective at the moment to wash away some of the bad vibes that were there with the last season, which featured an ensemble cast of big named actors, but could never quite get the story together.
