Suits season 8 renewal official; Gabriel Macht, Sarah Raffery, more returning

For everyone out there wondering about the status of a Suits season 8, the good news is finally official. Today, USA confirmed that they have renewed the hit series for another batch of episodes; not only that, but that Gabriel Macht (Harvey), Sarah Rafferty (Donna), Rick Hoffman (Louis), and Dule Hill (Alex) will be returning. Hill is espected to have a larger role after being a part of many episodes during season 7.

In a statement confirming this news, series boss Aaron Korsh had the following to say:

“I am incredibly excited to welcome back our phenomenal crew and cast – Gabriel, Sarah, Rick and Dulé – who will continue the roller coaster ride with all of our amazing fans. Season 8 will have everything from shifting alliances and internal power plays, to secrets, betrayals and fiery relationships. Keep an eye out for an adversarial new character that will give Harvey a run for his money.”

Suits had planned to keep the series going after the departures of Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams, and that makes even more sense now when you start to think about all of the potential viewership they stand to gain. The series has not aired since Markle and Prince Harry were engaged to be married. With that, we imagine that curiosity to see her perform on television is so much more than it ever was before.

As for whether or not the series continues beyond season 8, that is where things start to become a little bit murkier. Most USA dramas, whether it be Psych, Monk, or Burn Notice, have a tendency to stop around this point. There’s probably more story that could be told after season 8, but we are starting to get to the point with this show that it may not withstand too many more departures from the original cast.
