The Blacklist 100th episode ratings better pave way for season 6 renewal

Did The Blacklist 100th episode ratings serve as a nice reminder of the show’s one-time success? We’re not going to say that the numbers for Wednesday’s episode left our jaw on the ground, but they absolutely do make us all the more confident about the show’s season 6 future.

This episode entitled “Abraham Stern” ended up drawing in total 6.52 million viewers and a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That marks the largest total audience for the show since the fall of 2016, and to go along with that it was one of the highest-rated episodes of the season. It’s the only one to draw a 1.1 rating since the premiere.

What we do think is that the performance of this episode will give NBC even more of an incentive to pick up the series for another batch of episodes coming up. There is clearly more of an audience actively engaged in the show than what is watching live every week, and this show that if the story is big enough, some of these viewers could consistently come back. The Blacklist is still, even with fluctuations, a show that has a dedicated following. There are viewers who love the constant twists and turns, just as there are others who watch for James Spader, Megan Boone, and some of the other performers in the ensemble.

As for when NBC could announce a Blacklist season 6 renewal, they technically have until May in order to properly figure it out. We were fairly hopeful that said renewal will happen even before the 100th episode, mostly because the show has a great Netflix deal and, along with that, is popular in many other parts of the world. Given that there’s at least one more season (possibly longer) for many of the actors contractually, that’s another reason to bring the show back. It’s only after that things could start to become a little bit more complicated.
