Ink Master season 10 episode 3 preview: DJ Tambe vs. Sparks (again)

When Ink Master season 10 episode 3 airs next week, you’re going to see a familiar refrain from what we saw tonight: Sparks and his mentor DJ Tambe at one another’s throats. The arguments between the two artists isn’t slowing down, and we have a hard time thinking that this is going to change at all over the next few weeks.

The preview for next week’s new episode show the two at each other’s throats yet again, and it seems mostly to do with Sparks wanting to do things his way and DJ wanting basically the same thing for himself. This is a case of two artists having a very specific manner in which they like to do things, and neither one of them seems to be altogether flexible or willing to change that. They need to find common ground, but Sparks probably is the one who should be seeking that out more so than DJ given that he is the one being mentored. DJ’s already won the show; it’s understandable that he is going to be the one trying to pass along some of the teachings.

As for what else is coming, it does look as though DJ and the two other coaches (Anthony Michaels and Steve Tefft) are going to be getting more involved in the tattooing process than before. Are they creating some sort of piece for a flash challenge, or is this a new part of the show? What CarterMatt is mostly curious about is strictly in terms of how they can help or hurt their teams. It’s one thing to have your own life on the line in the competition and it’s another thing altogether to be responsible for other contestants’ hopes and dreams. We do get the sense of how tricky this could be since nobody necessarily wants that sort of weight on their shoulders.

There’s one other thing that we really should remind you of now, and that has to do with the network change. Tonight’s Ink Master is the last one to air on what is Spike. Next week, the rebranding effort to Paramount Network is complete. If you see the network change, don’t freak out — Ink Master isn’t going anywhere.
