The X-Files season 11 episode 3 preview: ‘Plus One’ and twin talk

For anyone out there who likes a good mystery mixed with some signature science fiction, The X-Files season 11 episode 3 entitled “Plus One” should very well do the trick. This is an installment that looks to bring in quite a bit of what viewers have loved about this show for quite some time.

For CarterMatt, we’ll admit that this is the sort of X-Files story that we find especially appealing. We are someone who loves the series the most when it is doing experimental, strange storylines featuring new characters and are not necessarily connecting to larger arcs or mythologies. The story-of-the-week plot has been disrespected far too much over the years, as some of our favorite episodes of various shows very much fit within that vein. There is something that is just incredibly appealing about being able to dive into a strange-but-wonderful tale that gets resolved in a single hour. You can forget the rest of the season and then come back and watch this episode on any given day in the future. it’s also a brilliant way to bring in new viewers that may think it’s too deep in to enjoy any X-Files without being lost.

If you look below, The X-Files season 11 episode 3 synopsis gives you more of a sense as to why “Plus One” is so interesting:

A spate of deaths, in which the victims were plagued by their own doppelgangers, lead Mulder and Scully to a pair of twins playing a dangerous game in the all-new “Plus One” episode of THE X-FILES airing Wednesday, Jan. 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

The Chris Carter of it all

Showrunner Chris Carter is responsible for writing this episode, and if this was a premiere/finale that would fill our heart with a certain degree of dread. In this situation, however, it really does not. Carter may have lost a little bit of his touch when it comes to creating larger stories, but this sort of stuff to us was always the series’ bread and butter. We’re hoping that this is one of those ideas that he has been passionate about for years but never got around to doing. We want to see this be a memorable story that really stands out years from now reflecting on this season as a whole.
