Will Disney acquisition impact The Gifted season 2 in any way?

Is The Gifted season 2 going to be impacted in some way by the Disney acquisition of Fox? It’s a question that has to be asked at this point. The superhero family series is one of those Marvel properties that Disney could choose to rebrand and shape in order to bring it into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are certainly plenty of people out there speculating that this is one of the reasons why the acquisition happened in the first place.

So will Disney change The Gifted season 2? Don’t count on it — at least for now.

One of the most important things about the acquisition, at least for now, is that it’s not going to have an immediate impact on the show’s future. Speaking (per Broadcasting & Cable) at TCA this week, Fox Television Group chairman Gary Newman had the following to say:

“I would be lying if I didn’t say there wasn’t anxiety that week the deal was announced … All of us talked with many of our producers about it and I think that we assured them that this is going to be business as usual.”

For the time being, don’t expect the Disney takeover to have an impact creatively on The Gifted season 2. Fox announcing that renewal (read more about it here) during their TCA event read to us very much like them wanting to make it abundantly clear that they didn’t want anyone to be concerned over the future of the show. The best thing that you can do now as a fan of the show is simply to keep watching and encourage as many other people to do the same.

Why is viewing The Gifted more important now than ever before? Think of things in this sense — you want to do everything in your power in order to pressure the upcoming bosses at Disney to keep the show around. If the ratings slip, it becomes easier for them to just make the move to cancel the show. At that point, they can just blame the ratings and then move on.
