How are Major Crimes ratings entering the series finale?
At the moment, that feels unlikely — there’s only been one episode this season close to the show’s season 5 ratings average, and it was the one immediately following the death of Sharon Raydor. It’s going to be incredibly challenging for the series to match that in the series finale … but it’s possible! As of right now, our feeling is that it will draw around a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and then around 2.5 million viewers.
The good news when it comes to the Major Crimes series finale is this — we don’t think that the show is ending with a whimper. Regardless of how you feel about the Sharon twist, the reality remains that this did get people discussing the series in a big way. It’s probably the most publicity the show’s received since coming out of The Closer — the cancellation is up there, but killing off your #1 star a few episodes before the end is stunning. It’s not something anyone images, especially given Sharon and Andy were married so close to that time.
The only thing that Major Crimes can really focus on at this point is having as touching and as positive a send-off as it can. Be thankful of the fans that got you this far, and also to a certain extent the network and the executives. It may not necessarily be this current regime you want to thank, but there were many executives at TNT for a long time who promoted the show hard and treated it as a cornerstone. They deserve some gratitude.

Also, we’re hoping moving past the Major Crimes series finale that many of these actors end up landing other work. These are certainly people who deserve to stick around in the spotlight in one way or another. It’d be fun to see some of them in roles that are very different from the ones that they did here. Wouldn’t it be great to see someone in a comedy or a period drama?
