Scandal – How to Get Away with Murder crossover happening at ABC
According to a report from Deadline, these two shows (which share an executive producer in Shonda Rhimes) are staging some sort of crossover event a little bit later this year. This news comes after Kerry Washington broke the #TGIT internet by posting a photo of herself as Olivia Pope on the How to Get Away with Murder set. This created some buzz around an idea that, honestly, CarterMatt never thought would happen.
Rhimes is not someone who just does crossovers for the heck of it — she’s always kept Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal in different universes, which makes sense given that some of the cast members over on Scandal have appeared on the medical drama in the past. The other issue here is that, on paper, there really aren’t too many reasons for these shows to spend time with one another. While we’re excited about the Scandal – How to Get Away with Murder crossover idea, at the same time you have to wonder why and how it happens. Annalise Keating is not involved in the Federal Government, so what business does she have interacting with Olivia Pope? Given that Washington herself was on the How to Get Away with Murder set, you have to think that she’s one of the people crossing over.
The timing of the crossover does make some sense given that it is now or never — Scandal is in its final season and will wrap up this spring.

Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder are both going to return with new episodes later this month. There are only a handful of episodes left for the Viola Davis series, so one of the interesting questions worth pondering right now is whether or not this crossover will be a part of How to Get Away with Murder season 4 itself or if it takes place after the fact and is saved only for a Scandal episode.
