Where is Kathy Griffin on CNN New Year’s Eve?

Just in case you’re wondering where Kathy Griffin is during CNN’s New Year’s Eve Special, there is a simple (and unfortunate) answer to that.

Griffin has hosted the New Year’s Eve special with Cooper for many years; unfortunately, her photo with a fake, decapitated Donald Trump head ended up being the last straw for the network. They decided to part ways with the comedienne in the wake of the photo controversy, and in the aftermath the relationship between Kathy and Anderson also suffered. She expressed sadness over Cooper not reaching out to her in the wake of everything that happened, and seems to be fine moving forward.

Meanwhile, the same goes for CNN — they had their show tonight with Cooper and Andy Cohen, and they weren’t exactly keen on spending a lot of time addressing the elephant in the room.

As for Griffin herself, she chose to not directly address the New Year’s Eve absence on Twitter — instead, she chose to thank her fans for sticking by her:

I sincerely want to thank all of you who have stuck by me with support, especially since May 30th. You guys have kept me going. I want you to have a better, if not great year ahead.

We do think that Griffin is going to be returning to prominence in some shape or form — she may be incredibly polarizing at the moment, but the thing we’ve come to learn time and time again is that nothing when it comes to Kathy ever is to be expected. She’ll probably find her way back, but we have a feeling that it’s going to take some time.

Do we miss Kathy?

Well, we do think that the show is a little bit different with Cohen at the helm — he’s not as crazy or as over-the-top as Kathy; while he does love to have fun, Anderson doesn’t seem as unnerved this year (at least so far) as he has been in the past.
