After Wednesday night’s sensational episode “Ruin,” what can The Blacklist season 5 episode 10 do in order to up the ante? How do you top one of the most unparalleled episodes of the NBC series? The struggle for “The Informant” on January 10 is going to be trying to keep some of that momentum going while also getting back into the show’s signature rhythm. There are some bad guys that need to be dispatched while the show builds up its larger mythology.

At this point, that mythology seems to be Liz trying to plan ahead in order to avenge Tom Keen’s death. If you haven’t figured it out just yet one of the real objectives in the second half of this season is keeping Tom’s memory close while channeling some of the anger and pain in a way that makes sense.

Below, CarterMatt has a few more details about this story as a whole courtesy of The Blacklist season 5 episode 10 synopsis:

01/10/2018 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Wednesday) : When Red (James Spader) directs the Task Force to find a Blacklister who uses his position of power to sell sensitive information, Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) finds himself at risk of exposure. Meanwhile, Liz (Megan Boone) plans her next move. James Carpinello and Alysia Reiner guest star.

Since we have already spelled out some of the story coming up for Liz, who also likely will need to get accustomed to her surroundings again, let’s cast the spotlight on Ressler for a moment. Given that Carpinello is coming back as Henry Prescott again, what that likely means to us is that the blackmail is continuing and has been ever since before the time jump. We could be at the moment now where Donald is reeling and desperate to get rid of this fixer once and for all. Is he so desperate now that he would call on Reddington for help? We have to consider that a definite possibility for the first time really ever since Reddington first came to him for the offer. We know that he has become quite wary of accepting his help and that makes sense — this is not the sort of person Ressler is. He’s not someone who deals in a currency of violence and underhandedness. He prefers to be on the straight and narrow … but has that really been possible ever since Laurel Hitchin died? This could be the episode where he decides on one path and keeps traveling down it.
