Vikings season 5 episode 7 preview: Bjorn returns to Kattegat

Vikings season 5 episode 7 is coming up on History in one week’s time, and at the center of the story is a reunion-of-sorts. Bjorn, after spending such a substantial period of time away exploring the world and finding a new side of himself, is going to be back at Kattegat! As you would imagine, there are some implications that come along with that … and also news that there is a battle looming.

We feel for Bjorn in one way, given that it’s pretty darn clear that there is no relief for the guy coming — after spending so much time traveling, can’t the guy catch a break? Not so much. We don’t think being a Viking comes with vacation days. Ivar certainly isn’t taking any as he continues to move forward in his quest of being as ruthless and quick to stir up trouble as humanly possible.

“Bjorn returns to Kattegat to learn that an attack is to take place during the next full moon. Meanwhile, Ivar must decide if he can place his trust in a former enemy on the battlefield…”

Vikings season 5 episode 7 is going to be more of a foundational episode, at least based on what we’re hearing here, than a revelatory one. This is an installment where some of the characters are doing their part in order to set the table and figure out what is going to be coming up for them next. It’s the calm before the storm and we’re hearing that a big storm is coming. That’s something that could be here in 5×10, otherwise known as the midseason finale.

If you love Vikings, we suggest watching this episode intensely given that what happens here will matter. That’s true for Ivar more than anyone, given that his potential allies could either be the people to move him forward towards total conquest or seal his fate. He’s done an incredible amount over the past year to build a base around him, but you can also argue that he has set himself up for one of the most dramatic of falls.
