Could Clive Standen return as Rollo to Vikings season 5, season 6?
It is probably understandable if you were to draw that conclusion given that it’s been a while since Rollo was featured on the show; meanwhile, Standen is certainly busy! In addition to doing Taken he also has a couple of movies in post-production, and his schedule is probably made all the more complicated by the fact that Taken isn’t exactly a next-door neighbor of where Vikings films in Ireland. If he wants to take part in History series he has to get there; after that, he can start to make some of the necessary preparations.
Here is the good news: Signs point to another Rollo appearance in the future. During a Q&A session on Twitter Standen hardly made it seem like he is done with the show, and he actively still promotes it and his character. While we’re not quire sure we’re going to see the character in the immediate future, we’re not writing out a Rollo appearance too far down the road. Season 5 is a long season; there are 20 episodes in there, and each one of them marks a new chance to feature the character.
In looking beyond just this season, Rollo does still have a significant role to play in Viking history and as a result of that, it’s pretty easy to speculate that the character could be returning in the upcoming sixth season filming now. As for a possible season 7, much of that is going to depend both on story interests and also if Taken ends up getting renewed. (Just to be clear: Taken doesn’t completely negate him from appearing on the show, but it does limit his appearances somewhat to an arc/small handful of appearances.)
For now the best piece of advice that can be offered is this: Keep Rollo floating around in the back of your head and don’t forget about him. The moment that you do could be the moment that he finds his way back into the show.
