Agents of SHIELD season 5 ratings fall to new low; Hawaii Five-0 ties season high
One week after returning to at least decent numbers considering the timeslot, the latest episode of the ABC Marvel series generated just a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and under 2 million viewers. This is the first time to date that Agents of SHIELD has pulled under 2 million for a new episode of the show in live+same-day viewing.
We don’t think we have to spell out what this means for the series’ future — it’s not great. Maybe if SHIELD was on The CW these would be acceptable Friday numbers, but we’re going to be anxious about it the most of the season if the numbers stay around there. It was a lucky to get a fifth season in the first place and it’s not doing all that much to make us think that a season 6 is likely.
There is another major test for the show coming the next two weeks, as new episodes will air at a time in which viewers are starting to become increasingly prepared for the holiday season.
As for some other ratings news…
Friday night was a very good one on CBS, as MacGyver (0.9) and Hawaii Five-0 (1.1) managed to tie their best ratings of the season in the demo. This is a phenomenon that we’re pretty familiar with when it comes to the network’s crime shows — they tend to perform the best in the winter months when viewers are home on Friday nights and they don’t want to be in the cold weather. We expect the numbers to remain solid for these shows over the next month or two, and we certainly do not anticipate them going anywhere in the near future. This is one of CBS’ most-dominant lineups; while they may not be powerhouses in the demo, they continue to draw big viewerships and we’ve come to know over time that CBS does care about viewers older than 49.
Meanwhile, over on ABC Once Upon a Time continues to be low with a 0.5 rating — unfortunately, we don’t really see its ratings changing at this point in the season.
