Matt Smith excited about The Crown season 3 recasting experiment
While it has to be a bummer in some ways for actors to lose their jobs, especially on a show this good, it is easy to be excited about the level of ambition present here. That’s something that Matt Smith, who plays the current iteration of Prince Philip, had to say to TV Guide:
“If they pull it off, I think it could be really fascinating to see … I think it’s really interesting to see how people are going to reinterpret it, and I think it keeps it fresh. And I think it’s difficult to sustain an actor’s interest over six [seasons].”
Smith is establishing quite a name for himself when it comes to projects — first he had Doctor Who, and now he got a chance to take this on. He’s probably one of those guys who on the other side of this should have a lot of options as to what he wants do, whether it be movies, television, theater, or a little bit of everything. He’s got a distant look and a vibrancy that plays very well in a lot of different roles. He can also be terrifying if he needs to be. Basically, he’s going to be just fine after this, and we’re excited to see who will be the new Philip.
For all of the current cast on The Crown what benefits them is that they have a chance to all depart the show when it is at its creative peak. Everyone is still loving and talking about it, so it avoids that common TV tradition where it goes on for too long and many people start to associate actors with the characters that they play.
The second season of The Crown premieres on Netflix next month. Want some more news on what’s coming up? Then be sure to visit the link here! That includes the recent trailer.
