Supergirl season 3 episode 9 spoilers: The Supergirl / Reign showdown

Supergirl season 3 episode 9

Supergirl season 3 episode 9 is airing on December 4, and signs point towards this being the showdown between Supergirl and Reign so many people want. This makes sense if it ends up being the last episode in 2017 — Supergirl, (like many of the other superhero shows on The CW) likes to cap off the year with an episode featuring their central villain in a big way. On Monday night’s episode “Wake Up” we know that we’re getting closer to Samantha uncovering her true destiny and in this episode, she could be starting to act out. This is going to be tricky — so many people love Samantha, and there’s probably going to be a hope from some that she is still somewhere in there.

Below, the Supergirl season 3 episode 9 synopsis CarterMatt has for you gives you a little more insight as to what’s coming up:

REIGN CHALLENGES SUPERGIRL – Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) investigates a mysterious symbol popping up all over National City, tracing its origins back to an ancient prophecy and the mark of the World Killer, Reign (Odetee Annable). Meanwhile, the tension between Lena (Katie McGrath) and Morgan Edge (guest star Adrian Pasdar) continues to build, causing James to step in and offer up some protection, and possibly igniting a spark in the process. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Paula Yoo & Caitlin Parrish (#309). Original airdate 12/4/17.

Part of the curiosity about Reign comes via the mechanics of the character. Is this a split-personality sort of situation, where this part of Samantha comes out and takes control over the dedicated single mom we’ve seen so far this season? Or, will Samantha be aware on some level as to what she’s doing? Is she in control?

Beyond Reign

We can go ahead and consider this synopsis as some of the strongest evidence of a James Olsen / Lena Luthor pairing, and we understand why Supergirl would want to go there. Given how much James knows and hates Lena’s brother Lex, it’s interesting that he could develop feelings for her. Sometimes, there is a fine line between love and hate, and this has an almost-Shakespearean feel to it. It’s too bad that there’s no guarantee that it’s going to end well for either party. These are two people who are basically as strong-willed as they come.
