The X-Files season 11 premiere date, new timeslot revealed
The truth is out there, this time it’s in the form of an official The X-Files season 11 premiere date courtesy of the fine folks over at Fox.
Today, the network officially confirmed that new episodes of the show will be premiering on Wednesday, January 3 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, a far earlier return for the ten-episode season than even we predicted. What this means is that Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are going to be replacements on the schedule for Empire. This show will be going off the air starting later this year, and it won’t be back until March.
What Fox is doing in putting the show on the air at this time is effectively choosing to replace one great show with another in order to ensure that their lineup remains strong. When the series was last on the air in 2016 it was on Monday nights. This isn’t an enormous change, but it is one worth pointing out to avoid any confusion. Two years ago the premiere episode also aired after the NFC Championship Game. That’s not happening this time, but we do still wonder if Fox may choose to air a special episode at that time since it would give the show a nice boost in the numbers, hopefully for one of their best ratings of the season.
In addition to the premiere date the network has officially released a new poster for the series, and that is something that you can see in full below. This poster is one that emphasizes the truth (a signature part of this series), but we do think that there is a little more specificity meant here than we’ve seen in the past. The new season of the show will center in part around William as a primary plot point, which may help to put to rest one of the biggest longstanding loose ends of the entire series — the status of Mulder and Scully’s son who they gave up for adoption so many years before.
For those interested in some larger scheduling notes, be aware that this show is going to be followed up by 9-1-1, the new first-responders drama from executive producer Ryan Murphy featuring a great cast including Peter Krause and Connie Britton.
