Quick Hits: The Crown season 2 trailer; New Girl season 7 casting; HBO premiere dates
There’s a number of different news items to get into with this edition of CarterMatt Quick Hits, but let’s start with The Crown season 2 trailer!
If you look below, you can watch the latest trailer for the show’s upcoming December 8 return. It reminds you in a mere matter of two minutes why it is one of the best series on all of television, flanked by outstanding performances featuring the likes of Claire Foy and Matt Smith. Over the course of season 2 Elizabeth will work in order to establish her legacy, while also breaking away from many Royal traditions and finding her own path.
Meanwhile, Philip (Smith) is going to find himself confronting some difficult realities, including his place on the line of succession and that despite his title, he may not get everything that he wants.
Odds are, you’re going to be seeing quite a bit of The Crown season 2 over the course of awards season — this begins with the Golden Globes, which will announce its upcoming nominees next month.
As for some other news of the day…
New Girl bringing back Dermot Mulroney
The actor is going to make a return to the Fox series in his role as Jessica Day’s former love interest Russell, (per TVLine) for multiple episodes of the show’s final season. While he and Jess may not engage in a romance again, there should be some fun that comes out of getting to see him again. We especially feel that way when you consider just how fundamentally different he is from Jess’ great love Nick Miller (Jake M. Johnson), who should be at the forefront of this final season when it comes to her love life.
New HBO premiere dates
For those of you who love Crashing starring Pete Holmes (and you really should), note that the second season is going to be starting up on Sunday, January 14 at 10:30 p.m. Eastern time, following the season 2 premiere of Divorce starring Sarah Jessica Parker at 10:00. These two shows are going to have some challenges in that they won’t get the benefit of a huge lead-in, much like the one-two punch of Ballers and Insecure do following up Game of Thrones.
