Supergirl season 3 episode 7 spoilers: Is this where Samantha becomes Reign?
That was the closing line of Monday night’s new episode of Supergirl, and as we look ahead to Supergirl season 3 episode 7 airing on Monday, November 20, there’s some serious danger coming: Samantha is about to be awakened as her villainous alter ego! This episode is entitled “Wake Up,” and the attached synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below certainly seems to be picking up the story left from the end of Monday’s episode:
When Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and the team discover an alien ship has crash landed deep underwater beneath National City, Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is called in to investigate. Meanwhile, Hank (David Harewood) attempts to bond with his father, Myr’nn (guest star Carl Lumbly). Samantha (Odette Annable), eager for some understanding of the changes she has been experiencing, looks to her estranged mother, Patricia Arias (guest star Betty Buckley), for answers. Chad Lowe directed the episode written by Gabriel Llanas and Anna Musky-Goldwyn.
The alien ship already seems to be activated, judging from how Supergirl accidentally did that in her quest to stop Thomas Coville on Monday night. This, in turn, seemed to be a catalyst in Samantha being visited and getting the aforementioned ominous warning about her true identity. Maybe this is something that she wouldn’t have been told for a while otherwise. She’s going to look towards her mother for some answers as to what is happening to her, and it could turn out that her mother knows a little bit more about her true self than she ever let on.
This is going to be the last episode of Supergirl season 3 prior to the big super crossover episode, and with that in mind the show may have a lot to address with the Reign storyline. The series recently introduced the Reign costume for the first time in the press and all signs point towards this being revealed during the episode following the crossover. That gives fans something to look forward to if this said episode proves to be the winter finale, as has been the case the past couple of years.
One other fun connection between “Wake Up” and this past episode comes via Chad Lowe — he played the spiritual leader Coville on Monday night, and for this upcoming episode he’ll be serving as a director. When his involvement with the show was first announced weeks ago it was clear that he would be taking on both roles at some point.
If Supergirl season 3 episode 7 plays its cards right we could be seeing one of the best villain arcs in the entire CW – DC Comics universe. We do know that this is easily the best setup that this show has ever done with a villain — not that the bar is set all that high here given that some of the past villains have been a bit of a mess.
