Scandal season 7 episode 4 preview: Are Olivia and Fitz back on?

When Scandal season 7 episode 4 entitled “Lost Girls” airs on ABC next week, there will be an abundance of questions. Many of them will have to do with the status of Olivia and Fitz, and then also Mellie and Marcus in turn. The show will be more romantic in some ways than ever before, but also more chaotic as the return of Fitz to Washington means all sorts of drama. This is one of the messiest spider webs of romance that is on any show out there. Fitz loves Olivia, who in turn loves him but is with another man. Meanwhile, Fitz was also married to Mellie, who has an interest now in Marcus, who works for Fitz. Throw in there a few ancillary characters like Jake Ballard and you have a casserole of confusion and chaos.

Is it messy? Sure, but most Scandal viewers happen to like messy. We imagine that this isn’t a problem for many of them out there. Below, you can get a few more bits and pieces of insight into Scandal season 7 episode 4 via the official ABC synopsis:

While Liv is busy running the free world, the team at QPA works with an unexpected client to solve an important case. At the White House, Mellie prepares for the upcoming Nuclear Summit with President Rashad and Prime Minister Nazari.

One of the things that probably makes the whole summit with President Rashad a little more messy for Mellie is the notion that there could be some romantic feelings bubbling underneath the surface there! Consider where those too parties stood at the end of last week’s episode — Rashad was MIA tonight, but with the heavy focus on Fitz that shouldn’t really come as much of a shock to anyone. The show had to focus on whatever it was that it needed to focus on.

This episode looks like it’s going to be a thrill to watch, and that may not be the right word when you consider the fact that we’ve got at the center of it so many different life-or-death situations. That’s part of the joy of Scandal, though — the weight of the world is on these characters’ shoulders but you don’t quite feel it. We’re all just here for the drama and to see what Shonda Rhimes and company have in store at the very end of the show. This is, after all, the final season.
