When could The Fosters season 6 renewal happen at Freeform?

Are we going to see a The Fosters season 6 renewal coming at some point in the reasonably-near future? We do know that we’d love to see it.

Yet, we also know that we may have to be a little bit patient in order for it to happen. When The Fosters was at first renewed for a fifth season on the network, it didn’t happen until we got around to January. That was right before the second half of the fourth season aired. While this technically was a very nice stamp of approval that the show would be coming back, it was a move that Freeform made us wait a while in order to actually see.

We wish that we could sit here and tell you some hopes that the show would be getting more of a stamp of approval a little bit faster this time around, but for the time being we’re not getting much in the way of evidence on that subject. We know that ratings for The Fosters are down so far about 18% versus season 4 in the 18-49 demographic, the measurement that matters the most in terms of live viewers. Yet, we also do think that this is one of the network’s most-lucrative and important shows. We’re living in a world that is increasingly depressing, and while things for this family are not always happy there is an element of hope that comes out of watching them persevere. One way or another they keep on living and finding better ways to help themselves and others. We think Freeform recognizes that importance and also that in this era it’s hard for them to be opposed to anything resembling decent ratings. Compared to some of the other shows that are out there on the schedule The Fosters may look rather impressive by comparison.

The Fosters will hopefully get a renewal at some point in the new year, especially since we haven’t heard anything as of yet suggesting that the second half of season 5 will be the final stretch for the show. While technically the series can go on forever, we would like for it to stick around at least long enough to have a proper conclusion. We don’t want to see it wrap up without warning and production is already deep into making some of the second half of season 5 as great as possible.

For now, we remain fairly optimistic that more episodes will be coming. As a result of that, let’s just wait and see precisely what happens.
