‘Shiptober: On Grey’s Anatomy season 14, Owen and Amelia’s future

Owen and Amelia -

Mrs. Carter: Are Owen and Amelia going to be able to make it through their latest hardship on Grey’s Anatomy season 14?

While we’ve discussed many couples over time in our CarterMatt ‘Shiptober series, the status of these two is a little bit different than most. These two characters are dealing with something bigger than a relationship, and it’s painful: Amelia’s future is on the line because of the brain tumor. They have to almost put their romantic relationship to the side and determine how they want to tackle this problem.

With that, the question that we ask here is different than how they can get their romance back on track. It’s more about what Owen can do to help his wife, and in turn what she can do in order to help herself. Amelia realizes now that Owen feels like he’s been abandoned, and we do think that she will make some efforts to fix that if she can make it through this tumor okay. The problem that she’s running into here is figuring out how to do that. So much of her recent life and decisions were controlled by this — she’s not herself and she now even has some verification of that in a way that she didn’t beforehand.

For Owen, the #1 priority right now has to be just being there for her — listening, caring, and pooling his medical knowledge with the other doctors in order to figure out a proper way to help her and make her feel more comfortable. He needs to push some of his own problems to the side, and that’s a difficult proposition when you consider everything that he is going through with his sister Megan back in his life for the first time in forever. This is almost going to have to be a chain of support — he needs to have some people like Meredith or Nathan supporting him so that he, in turn, will be able to compartmentalize and support Amelia. Be there for her, be understanding, and focus on her health as top priority. There will be some other opportunities to focus on some other aspects of her life moving into the future.

So what about Teddy?

Owen kissing his longtime friend has to be addressed; even if Amelia effectively told him that she didn’t care about him leading up to it happening, he still made the decision to do it. We wonder if this coming out will serve as another point of contention between Owen and Amelia and a reason why Teddy decides to leave the hospital down the road if that happens — though that may happen, anyway, when Megan does.

What do you think could be coming for Owen and Amelia on Grey’s Anatomy season 14 from here?
