Broken Record: Meghan Trainor-produced potential series lands at ABC
According to Deadline, The Mark Gordon Co. and studio-based producer Drew Comins series has been given a put pilot commitment. This series marks the first broadcast sale from a multi-year overall deal The Mark Gordon Co. has made with Creative Engine Entertainment. Creative Engine Entertainment is the new company of Drew Comins, who just finished a five-year stint at Flame Venture, which is owned by Tony Ktantz.
The series will follow “the former members of a girl band. Nine years ago, superstar girl group The Candies imploded. Now, on the anniversary of their breakup, a tragic event brings the girls back together for an unexpected encore. Broken Record tracks the journey of these four women of a certain age as they navigate changing tides in the music business and attempt to find their second acts—in life and in friendship.”
It will definitely be interesting to see how this series does with its pilot and whether or not ABC will decide to order a full season. The description is interesting, but can it live up to the hype? Well if ABC decides to order a full season, then we consider checking it out. The series does have an advantage with being associated with The Mark Gordan Co. who has a successful presence on ABC already. Meghan Trainor is also an advantage being that she will attract her huge fanbase to the series and possibly to other ABC shows. With STAR on Fox, you can clearly see that there’s a market for girl-group scripted series out there.
The series is written by Jenni Ross (Underemployed) and based off the original idea by Danny Rose (Scorpion, Cougar Town) and Justin Sylvester. Along with Ross, Rose, and Sylvester, Meghan Trainor will executive produce. In addition, Sylvester will serve as a Co-Executive Producer. Plus, Trainor will also provide original music for the series which is sure to be worthy of checking out later down the road.
Broken Record will be one of the many shows that fall under The Mark Gordon Co. and ABC. It will join Grey’s Anatomy, Quantico, and Designated Survivor on ABC. The company also produces Ray Donovan (Showtime) and Criminal Minds (CBS).
