The Flash season 4: WestAllen wedding confirmed for ‘Crisis on Earth-X’ crossover

Mrs. Carter: If you’ve been wondering when the WestAllen wedding will take place on The Flashwait no longer!

Today, it was confirmed that the upcoming four-part superhero crossover, which includes Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and The Flash, will feature the WestAllen wedding at the center of it. The episodes are entitled “Crisis on Earth-X,” and the poster below (designed by Phil Jimenez) gives you a good sense of what going to be coming up … including a wedding dress for Candice Patton’s character. It may also give you a sense of some of the villains, provided that this image is really altogether accurate in that regard. We do hope it is, given that this means that we’re going to have a chance to see more of Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold alongside some other characters.

In a statement, Arrow-verse executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg had the following to say on what they wanted this crossover to look like when it eventually airs on the network come November 27 and 28:

“We conceived this year’s crossover to be evocative of the annual Justice League/Justice Society crossovers we grew up with and looked forward to as kids … Phil was the perfect choice to bring the comic book cover iteration of this idea to life. You can count on one hand the number of artists who could compellingly represent so many characters in a single image. Phil is one of them. And his design invokes the cover of Justice League #207, which was the 20th Annual JLA/JSA crossover. Our ten-year-old selves are in heaven.“

If this doesn’t get you excited about the WestAllen wedding and the crossover, we don’t know what will. This cross-over seems to be character driven and romantic in nature, as opposed to just something that focuses on an external threat like what we saw last year with the Dominators. They proved to be threatening, but not altogether interesting as villains.

It’s certainly possible that getting all of these characters together in one place will inspire some other characters to explore relationships of their own; if nothing else, it should just prove to be a lot of fun and establish more depth to the comic-book universe on these shows. This crossover should be a further proof-of-concept as to why these shows can do what the big-budget Justice League movie can’t. There is no huge investment in some of those movie characters, whereas here on these shows we’ve had a chance to really get to know some of these characters over time.

Remember that all of the CW superhero shows are going to premiere next month, and the path to the WestAllen wedding in the crossover is probably going to be paved over time. (If you are especially impatient, you can see some of the first details about it now over here.)
