Riverdale season 2 spoilers: Graham Phillips to play Veronica’s ex

Graham Phillips

While Riverdale season 2 may start off with Archie dating Veronica, it’s possible that there could be some complications to said relationship. Could the arrival of Graham Phillips be one of them? You can’t rule anything out…

According to a report coming in via Entertainment Weekly, the actor (who played Alicia’s son Zach on The Good Wife) will appear in two episodes as Veronica’s former boyfriend Nick St. Clair — somehow, this feels like the perfect name for an ex who has a history of being a toolbox. Executive producer Roberto Aguiree-Sacasa seemed to confirm that further with a statement

Nick is an old classmate of Veronica’s from New York, and despite his parent-pleasing veneer, he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing: a hard-partying Lothario with dark desires and an unchecked sense of privilege. His arrival in Riverdale will threaten Archie’s relationship with Veronica, and may even put some of our characters at risk.”

Through what we’ve heard so far about Riverdale season 2, early indications do suggest that this is very much the season of Veronica. After all, we’re also going to be seeing Mark Consuelos play a significant role in the story as her father Hiram Lodge, and this should further inform us about why she is the person that she is and what she’s been through to get there. There also have to be some reasons why she has or at least had an interest in Nick. There was something about his personally, at least superficially, that appealed to him.

The second season of Riverdale is going to be premiering on The CW this fall, and indications are that we’re looking at a longer season this time around of around 22 episodes. That offers up some more opportunities to dive into these characters, to see who they are and understand them better. Archie and Veronica have their work cut out for them if the goal is for them to stay together for a full season, but some crazier things have transpired over the years. Just look at almost anything that we had a chance to see transpire with the Blossom family during this past season of the show. Riverdale can be a rather unpredictable place.

One final thing to remember about Nick

Even though his initial appearance on the show may only be set for a couple of episodes, that doesn’t mean in the slightest that this is the full extent of his appearance on the show. It’s still very much possible that he comes back at some point down the road and finds a way to shake up this entire universe once more.
