Absentia sneak peek: Nick Durand, Jack Byrne, trust, and belief
This one focuses primarily on the characters of Jack Byrne (Neil Jackson) and Nick Durand (Patrick Heusinger), as they have a check-in while at what appears to be a hospital. They’re looking for more information, potentially on the latest in the Emily Byrne (Stana Katic) case, but it doesn’t appear that there’s any more information that is worth sharing. As for whether or not that’s true, it’s a good question … but also one that cannot be fully answered at the moment. Just remember for a moment or two here that Nick is a part of the FBI; therefore, we wouldn’t be shocked if he was withholding something for the time being.
With that said, there’s also another curious possibility here that maybe Jack knows more than he is letting on to anyone. This is a show where you should be suspecting everyone, whether it be Emily’s brother, Nick’s new wife Alice (Cara Theobold), or even some others in the FBI. Someone may know something but may be opting to keep their silence for one reason or another. We’re trying for the time being to view everyone at face value, mostly because if there is meant to be a shocking turn down the road, it’s meant to be just that: Shocking. If we view everyone as immediately suspicious, one of the consequences that can come along with that is that we don’t treat their words with sincerity now. We want to believe that Jack is a caring brother who’s struggled with the idea of losing someone so close to him. We can imagine that her coming back now will open all sorts of emotional floodgates.
Hopefully, this teaser does its job of continuing to have you excited for the Absentia premiere, no matter when that happens where you live. Right now, the only date that’s been officially handed down is “fall,” and we’re still waiting to fill in some of the further cracks beyond that. The same goes for seeing who could pick up the show in America — it’s very good, and certainly worthy of a great home.
Circling back to Comic-Con
Wouldn’t it be great to see an Absentia panel there someday? We do understand why there isn’t one given that this isn’t really the sort of show that would have one in terms of its genre, but nonetheless we do think that it’d be fun. After all, we did see Stana Katic’s previous show in Castle make it there in the past.
