Chicago PD season 5 spoilers: The Wire, Suits actor Wendell Pierce signs up

Wendell Pierce

The Chicago PD season 5 premiere on NBC just got that much more interesting. After all, we’re officially set now to get Wendell Pierce!

Sources confirm that Pierce is going to be stopping by the first episode of the new season in a role that is very politically inclined, which is something that we have specifically seen quite a bit as of late on the show’s sister series in Chicago FireHere, Pierce’s character is going to be that of Alderman Ray Price, a highly intelligent and very shrewd politician, and a guy who manages to avoid almost any trouble that comes his way. It’s hard to understand just how he’s able to consistently make this work for him, but somehow, he does. He is able to play almost every single side effectively, which is one of the things that should make his story interesting — especially if he is accused of a crime and Intelligence has the challenge of trying to figure out what is a lie and what is the truth. For those of you who love interesting / complex Chicago PD cases, this should prove to be very much right up your alley.

Of course, we do wonder if Intelligence is going to be able to even put much of their full energy on Pierce’s character given everything else that will be happening at the time of the premiere. Sophia Bush is leaving, and while it’s possible she will make one more appearance in the premiere, it’s far from concerned. Saying goodbye to Erin Lindsay is important, especially since her role impacts so many characters in so many different ways. Her relationship with Halstead was at the point where Jay was ready to propose; meanwhile, there is that fatherly dynamic that is there with Voight; he worked so hard to take her under his sometimes-problematic wing that it could be hard for him to envision moving forward without him. Nonetheless, this may be precisely what he ends up having to do in the end, regardless of whether or not he likes it.

The premiere airs later this fall, and we absolutely imagine that there will be more news about it before too long. Pierce is a fan favorite of ours especially for playing Robert Zane on Suits, so any opportunity that we get to have him on another quality show is one that we’ll both embrace and celebrate. Hopefully, this is a part that he can come back and play down the road if it ends up working out well.
