Chicago PD season 5 spoilers: Mykelti Williamson returning in larger role

Mykelti Williamson

If you remember Mykelti Williamson on Chicago PD season 5, then odds are, you’re familiar with the significance of Denny Woods. He is a former partner of one Hank Voight, and an extremely interesting man because he knows where some of those metaphorical (and possibly literal) bodies are buried. Hank’s got a troubled past, and Woods knows that.

As a viewer, we’re thrilled to get more of Woods on the show — after all, the news of Williamson’s return is now official! This was first confirmed in a new report over at Deadline, as it is going to be in a recurring capacity. While the circumstances surrounding his return are not clear, he will likely have some chances to interact/question Voight once more.

Anytime that you have a good hero, you need a villain — but what makes this show so interesting is that nothing is ever so black and white. In this case, you can argue that it is actually Voight who is the villain given that he is the vigilante, the man who kills on the job and often does not have any remorse for his past instances of police brutality. He often does what he wants and doesn’t spend all that much time really thinking about the ramifications of it. His goals may be to get justice, but he isn’t afraid to wreck stuff up along the way (only think of a word that is a little harsher than “stuff” here for a more accurate depiction of what’s happening).

Williamson is coming onto Chicago PD at a time where there is some flux. Behind the scenes, there is a big change with Rick Eid coming on board to replace the departing Matt Olmstead. Meanwhile, you’ve also got the exit of Sophia Bush, and there isn’t much out there still regarding what the show is going to be doing in order to replace her in Intelligence.

Beyond all of this, there is the good news that Jon Seda is going to be coming back in a permanent capacity, though it’s not all that clear how it is going to happen. Theoretically, we do think that there is probably enough interaction between the PD and the State’s Attorney’s Office that he could probably keep his same job and still turn up fairly often. That’s just one idea, but we feel like the show has many others floating around in their minds.

Now, let’s get to your thoughts
