Arrow season 6: See Dinah Drake’s Black Canary costume!
How do we think this costume compares to some of the others that are out there? Well, let’s start here by saying that we find this AWESOME. It’s familiar enough to feel like Black Canary, but also still different enough that it’s not the same costume we’ve seen before. The patterns on the shoulders are also reminiscent somewhat on some of the character’s trademark fishnets, and you can see her clearly sporting her signature weapon — and she’s still got the Canary Cry to go along with that — the advanced version brought on by her being a meta-human. You even have some of the blonde streaks in her hair as a little bit of an homage.
So where is Dinah’s mindset now that she has this costume and is a full-fledged member of the team? This is something that executive producer Wendy Mericle comments on further with the following statement to the aforementioned website:
“I think the combination of the costume and this new confidence she has as being part of the team is — this is it, she’s come into her own very much so. It’s a good step forward for her character, but it’s also really representative and a good step forward for the team. People we brought in at the beginning of last season — probably, if they make it off the island — some of them will become full-fledged members of the team. That’s a very different situation than we’ve had in the past. In a way, we’re closing the circle on what we started in episode 501 and 502 last season, which was introducing these new characters and really bringing them along under Oliver’s tutelage. This is going to be the culmination, for her, of where she ends up.”
Basically, Dinah is going to feel more confident and prepared for anything that does come her way in the new season, and there is a significant reason for everyone to be afraid of her who is one of the bad guys. She’s experienced now in what she does, and we also know that she’s got a good relationship going with most of the team at this point. Also, we know already that she’s going to have a new love interest for the season, which you can read a little bit more about by heading over to the link here.
After looking at this costume, the one thing that does feel very clear now is that Dinah’s not going to be dying in that explosion at the end of last season … at least until we’re looking at the secret Earth-2 version of the character and this has all been some sort of cruel trick.
