Teen Choice Awards 2017: Chris Wood, Grant Gustin, Stephen Amell among Action Actor picks

Chris Wood

The Choice Action TV Actor category at the Teen Choice Awards this year is going to be very much interesting given the field. Three of the six nominees are from the CW superhero universe, and maybe there’s a slight chance they cancel each other out. Meanwhile, you’ve got a good in Wentworth Miller who is technically a part of that universe, though he’s nominated here for a different show.

Overall, you’ve got some wild-cards who would probably get more attention were it not for the category change. This is going to be competitive this year, and we’re excited to break it all down and figure out just who from this group is the most likely to come out on top.

How to vote – Just select your favorite in the poll below! You can vote however often you’d like, but you may need to refresh the page in the process. Also note that if you are viewing on an AMP page you may need to click to view the non-AMP version at the bottom of the page. We’ll announce some of the winners among CarterMatt readers on July 15.

Remember, voting here is not official. This is just a fun way to gauge the popularity of the nominees, and if they align with what the Teen Choice Awards voters decide.

The nominees: Choice Action TV Actor

Chris Wood, Supergirl (The CW)

Clayne Crawford, Lethal Weapon (Fox)

Gabriel Luna, Agents of SHIELD (ABC)

Grant Gustin, The Flash (The CW)

Stephen Amell, Arrow (The CW)

Wentworth Miller, Prison Break (Fox)

Sizing up the field

Of this group, you’ve got a really interesting field. Unfortunately, you can go ahead and write off Crawford from the list given that Lethal Weapon isn’t really a teen show. We’re also not sure how many teens out there even remembered the original Prison Break enough to enjoy the revivial.

As for the others, Luna is probably a long shot — his Ghost Rider was awesome, but he didn’t quite appear in enough of the season.

Who will win

To us, this is most likely between Gustin, Wood, and Amell, and of the three, we think that Gustin probably has the most consistent support while also being on a show that is extremely teen-friendly. It’s also hard to complain about the choice, given that he effectively played several different versions of himself across different timelines over season 3.

Who should win

Stephen Amell was sensation on Arrow season 5, and delivered some of the best acting that we’ve seen on the entire CW – DC Comics universe so far. The episode with the interrogation with Adrian Chase was haunting, gritty, and all sorts of powerful. If he’s not getting a nod at some other awards shows (he’s certainly worthy of some consideration), he should absolutely get it here.
