Call the Midwife season 7 spoilers: Is a Hollyoaks actress being cast?
It was actually Sophie’s boyfriend Shayne Ward who first revealed this exciting news. Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on a new episode of This Morning this past week (per the Radio Times), Ward had the following to say while boasting about Austin’s new gig:
“Now actually Sophie’s just starting a new job, and she’s probably going to kill me for saying this, but I have to say it because I’m excited for you, but she’s just started Call the Midwife.”
Can you blame Ward for wanting to brag? It’s a great show, and the sort of gig that anyone should be proud of! The series is getting set for both a Christmas Special later this year and new installments coming in 2018. This is also a series that is in need of some more characters, given that there are several that will not be a part of season 7, including Patsy, Delia, and Sister Monica Joan. For one reason or another, this show does have a rather frequent revolving door when it comes to cast members, and much of that may be due to the show’s own sense of flexibility. They want to allow their actors to pursue whatever it is that they want to, regardless of what that means for this show. It’s painful to see people go (we still remember our sadness at the departure of Jessica Raine), but the one positive thing to note is that it does give us a chance to see new talent and see how they express themselves within the world of the show. Hopefully, Austin will bring some lovely things to this show, and we’ll come to care for whatever character she’s playing as much as the other people who are in Nonnatus House and beyond already.
Now that we’ve said all of that, let’s hope that there aren’t any other major Call the Midwife departures in the near future. We’re not sure that our heart can take it!
