Quick Hits: Dear White People season 2 renewal; Ballers season 3 tease; Rick and Morty premiere date
We begin this edition of Quick Hits with great news in terms of a Dear White People season 2 renewal — it’s happening!
Netflix confirmed that the topical and often-funny series revolving around a group of black students at a largely-white university will be returning next year, and that production for the new slate of episodes will air this fall. Given what happened in the finale, with (spoiler alert) Troy being cuffed amidst the protest and Sam’s personal life in relative tatters, there’s a lot of great story to get into here. There’s also a lot of conversation that does need to had still about the state of race relations in 2017; the best thing about this show is that it will find interesting, relatable angles to tell these said stories.

Ballers season 3 tease
The Dwayne Johnson comedy is returning to HBO on Sunday, July 23, and below you can see some of the first news on the premiere episode. The title here is “Seeds of Expansion,” and this could mark the beginning of the journey of Spencer Strasmore to Las Vegas — a place that will be a central part of the story this time around:
“Looking to score high-profile clients to pay off his debts to Ricky (John David Washington) and Vernon (Donovan Carter), Spencer (Dwayne Johnson) hits a roadblock with Mr. Anderson (Richard Schiff), who wants to focus on the Las Vegas market by partnering with casino magnate Wayne Hastings, Jr. (Steve Guttenberg). Ricky ponders fatherhood; Vernon (Donovan Carter) and Reggie (London Brown) eye an edgy endorsement; Larry (Dulé Hill) makes Charles (Omar Benson Miller) the face of bad news at a team press conference.”
Given that production of Ballers moved to Los Angeles after the first two years in Florida, it certainly does make sense to try to utilize other locations, no? Also, Vegas is the perfect place for Spencer to be given that it’s a hotbed of various temptations. In other words, there is a reasonably good shot that he’ll crack there under the various pressures going on in his life.
Rick and Morty finally has a premiere date
After a long delay, the Adult Swim comedy is going to be back in action come Sunday, July 30 at 11:30 p.m. Eastern time. One of the reasons for the delay simply seems due to the interest in making sure the stories were worthwhile, funny, and perfectly in line with the show’s tone — which means that we can’t discuss them too much here given that this is a family site.
