Cable Ratings: Nashville season 5, Dark Matter season 3, and Wynonna Earp
Let’s go through all three individually to give you a sense as to where they are at, and also where they need to go the rest of the way to better secure a long-term fate.
Wynonna Earp – Let’s start with a show that is easily one of our favorites this summer thanks to pure silliness and entertainment. This show continues to stay where it’s been all season with a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and also just under 500,000 viewers. That’s a small drop from the second episode the week prior, but also up from the premiere. The show is to date down slightly from season 1 in the live ratings, but that’s expected given standard year-to-year declines. This could still be enough to keep the show on the air — we certainly hope that it is!
Dark Matter – Meanwhile, Syfy’s Friday-night companion to Wynonna Earp generated in its own right a 0.2 rating and just over 600,000 viewers. The pattern here is almost identical in that this marks a small performance drop from the week before and versus the previous season. The good news is that year-to-year, Dark Matter is actually losing an even smaller amount of viewers in comparison to Wynonna Earp.
Nashville – Let’s go from the otherworldly to something a little bit more grounded for a minute. The latest episode of the CMT drama got a 0.2 rating and just under 730,000 viewers — which, once again, is a slight drop from the week before but pretty much in line with the average. You can’t really do year-to-year comparisons given the switch in networks here, and the bigger thing to note right now is that Nashville is renewed already for a sixth season. Of these shows at the moment, it’s the only one that feels as though it’s actually got some security. It does still need to perform well in the event it wants to go beyond season 6.
