The Young and the Restless, Price Is Right, more renewed by CBS
In a new statement today, the network confirmed that The Young and the Restless has been officially renewed for three more years, which is a tremendous commitment to give to a show in the daytime drama realm. Remember when so many of these shows were getting canceled left and right?
To go along with this news, we’re also hearing that the network has ordered two more seasons of their classic game show The Price is Right and also an additional season each of The Talk and Let’s Make a Deal. In the case of The Talk, the daytime panel show is recovering from the loss of Aisha Tyler, who announced her departure at the end of this past week. She will remain firmly in the CBS family thanks to her gig as a series regular on Criminal Minds.
In a statement confirming the new additions and the lineup as a whole, CBS’ own executive vice president of daytime programs and syndicated program development Angelica McDaniel had the following to say:
“CBS Daytime has never been stronger … From 30 consecutive years of being No. 1 in the ratings, to another year as the most honored network at the Daytime Emmys, our lineup of talk, game shows and dramas connects with our audience like no one else.”
There is something to be said for constantly trying to change the game and coming up with new and exciting ways in which to win the audience over. However, there is also something to be said for just doing such a good job that you don’t need to change a whole lot. This is clearly the angle that the folks over at CBS are working, and it makes some sense given that this is the angle where they are routinely finding success. The Price Is Right and The Young & the Restless are institutions, even if that institution is just “shows to watch when you call in sick from work.”
